Wordpress was more popular than Joomla for small Web sites and blogs and is the source of many fine looking themes that are regularly converted to Drupal and Joomla. For many years Wordpress themes set the standard for typography.

Wordpress is great for blogs but limited for other content management. I prefer Drupal for content management because Drupal, including all the Drupal extension modules, does more of what I want. Blogs are personal logs that are similar to a column in a newspaper. Someone rattles of comments whenever the like and people visit at regular intervals to read the latest words. If you are interested in fishing for trout, you look for a blog about fishing for trout. The author might also talk about boats and beer in the same blog. If you prefer wine to beer, you look around for a blog on fishing for trout where the author also writes about wine. There are so many blogs worldwide that you will eventually find dozens on every topic.

Blogs interconnect through things called RSS and other weird names. You can create a blog that contains nothing original and is filled just with quotations copied automatically from other blogs. If you are reading a blog, you will find some content from other blogs and that content may not have an origin. I tried to trace one item in a blog and found the item linked to a block that linked to a blog and so on. The trail dried up after many links because the original blogger had deleted the item. There was no way to find out if the item was true or false, if it was based on fact or rumour. One estimate says there are 30 million blogs out there on the Internet. There are many estimates that fewer than one blog in a hundred produces original content.

When you read a newspaper or a magazine, you notice that the columns are usually for comments about the articles, or the theme of the articles, in the magazine. The actual useful content is in the articles. The same happens with content management and blogs. You want a Web site with minimal bloggertainment and maximum content. Wordpress is good at the blogging but not good at managing the useful part of a site, the content.
